January 27: Farmington's Scout Simpson captured the gold in the 
2024 Junior Sassi 3k Classical at Black Mountain of Maine. Waxing was a challenge for many teams, with several skiers experiencing a buildup of snow in the kick zone of their skis. Dispite the conditions, Simpson was able to finish the race in 12:25.3 for the win. Winning the silver was independeny skier Maisy Colby. Maisy finished the race in 12:48.9. The final podium position went to FAST's Audrey Patterson, who crossed the line in 13:05.9.
Emma Tyler of FAST just missed the podium with a time of 13:13.7. Roundig out the top 6 were Quarry Road's Andrea Gunter (13:16.3) and Hazel Waterman (13:28.0).
In the boys race that followed, FAST's Quinn Hoeft to top honors with a time of 10:27.6. Second place went to Ian Beal of Quarry Road. Beal strided through the finish at the 10:59.8. Coming in third was Wyatt Jessen of FAST, who had a time of 11:08.8.
Fouth place went to Noel Waterman of Gray-New Gloucester with a 11:45.3 time. Turner Albee of Quarry Road took fifth (11:54.9) while Luke Demarco of FAST finished in 11:55.2 to garner sixth place.

EVENT: 3km CLASSICAL 15 second interval start
SEEDING: Racers to be seeded from fastest to slowest.
AWARDS: Awards will be approx. 10:30 AM. Location to be announced. Racers must be present to win the bib draws.
WAX TESTING: Wax testing allowed on the course up to 10 minutes before the start. Everyone must ski in the direction of the race course.
COURSE MOVEMENT: All spectators and coaches are welcome out on the course during race. Skiers must travel in the direction of the race course at all times.

BIB PICK-UP: Bib pick-up will be in race headquarters upon arrival at Black Mountain. Race headquarters opens at 8:00 AM. Please return unused bibs prior to the start of the race. $50.00 fee charged for any lost bib.

This is a chance for Junior Skiers in grades 8 and under from across the State to come together in one great event with a course and venue prepared to a National level. Come make this event the premier event of the season.
