The 2017 Maine Jr Ski League Chisholm Challenge, held at Black Mountain on January 16th, was a big success.
In the Boys combined Giant Slalom/Slalom event, Jake Tyler of the Sugarloaf Area Ski Team came in first with a combined gs/slalom time of 1:10,27. Josh Smith, skiing for Farmington Area Ski Team, was second at 1:10.41. Noah Koenig of Sugarloaf was third at 1:14.93.In the girls alpine competition, Farmington's Taylor Gordon took the gold with a combined score of 1:09.96, followed by Sugarloaf's Alice MacKay at 1:11.64. Charlie Koenig of Sugarloaf took the bronze with a combined score of 1:16.01.
In the afternoon's Boys 3k Nordic Classical race, Aaron Labrash, skiing for the Mtn. Valley Middle School Hawks, won the gold with a time of 9:27.1. Jackson Joyce strided to a silver medal finish for Farmington with a time of 9:40.5 while Jayshaun Wright of Mtn. Valley cam in third at 9:53.2.
It was a clean podium sweep for the Farmington Area girls in the 3k with Emma Charles taking the top position with a 9:50.3 finish. Teammates Bridget Reusch and Moria Reusch finished in second and third.
